Elmhurst Dentist
If you want to make sure that your teeth and gums stay healthy, you will want to visit our dental practice, The Gentle Dentist - Dr. Amit Sood, for periodic dental exams and teeth cleanings. Our
Elmhurst dentist, Dr. Sood, will assess the health of your teeth and gums, and let you know if you need to have extra regular dental cleanings or periodontal cleanings.
It is generally recommended by our
Elmhurst dentist that patients have regular dental cleanings every six months. If our dentist finds that you have a specific oral health condition, or that you have a specific medical condition, he may instead recommend that you have regular dental cleanings more frequently. During a regular dental cleaning, all plaque, tartar, and food debris will be removed from the surface of the teeth. Your teeth will also be cleaned in between the teeth, and debris will be removed from just below the gum line. This type of cleaning will not only help prevent dental cavities, but it will also be very helpful in preventing gingivitis. Gingivitis is a gum inflammation that occurs when your gums are constantly irritated by plaque on or just below the gum line. If our dentist finds that deep pockets have developed between your teeth and gums, you will need to have a periodontal cleaning. When deep pockets form between the teeth and gums, this generally occurs due to a buildup of tartar on the teeth. When plaque hardens, it turns into tartar, and this can only be removed during a professional dental cleaning. If deep pockets form between the teeth and gums, materials can gather in these deep pockets and infection will form. A periodontal scaling and root planing cleaning will remove all materials from the deep pockets, and the tooth roots are planed so that materials, such as plaque, cannot easily stick to them and cause damage.
